Transcending the Mind to discover Inner Peace

Our Mind is constantly at work – creating and responding to both the stimuli from the external world as well as that of our inner world.

At times this can be an over whelming experience especially in the non-stop and ever-increasing daily demands of our life experience.

This will only increase as more information, technology and the requisite faster speed requirements of our mind to process continually grows.

Is there a way to switch off the Mind for a minute?

Or perhaps escape the processing for an hour?

A holiday of no mind before returning to the normal high speed demands of our everyday life.

Inner Peace exists within all of us however it appears illusory and unobtainable to many due to the strong currents of Mind that cloud and hide it from our direct awareness experience.

The classical metaphor of the shinning Sun obscured by the clouds is traditionally used to describe this state.

So how can we remove the obstructing clouds and just experience the Sun directly?

The answer is Dhyana – a Sanskrit word that is often translated as meditation. Whilst meditation is a well known term let’s look at a more classical description of Dhyana,

“In the oldest texts of Buddhism, dhyana is a component of the training of the mind, commonly translated as meditation, to withdraw the mind from the automatic responses to sense-impressions, "burn up" the defilements, and leading to a "state of perfect equanimity and awareness.” 1


Quite often when one starts to meditate there are multiple simultaneous awareness experiences.

The focus point whether that be the breath, body posture or a visualisation and then all the other experiences that occur including awareness of the chattering aspects of Mind that are likely to be still apparent and running in the background.

If the awareness can hold all of these experiences and just witness them with limited or no engagement or attachment then the potential to experience a state beyond can be realised.

This is the doorway to Inner Peace amidst the background noise of multiple simultaneous awareness experiences. Even this partial Inner Peace experience is both extremely rejuvenating and quite wonderful in it’s blissfulness.

As this Inner Peace experience is held in the awareness there are moments when all the multiple simultaneous awareness experiences just melt and disappear leaving a pure bliss experience.

This Inner Peace experience is literally timeless and though it might only be a few seconds in linear time it can feel vast and expansive.

As with so many practices in life, repetition can make the access point to Inner Peace more familiar and then it can be relatively easy to travel to this awareness experience very quickly – transcending the Mind and leaving the world behind.

Once Inner Peace has been experienced it is highly addictive and the wealth of benefits it brings to the body-emotional-mind trinity is quite staggering.

Inner Peace, whilst being an amazing experience, is only a step on the ultimate journey into the realm of Enlightenment.
